Unlocking Quadratic Transformations: From Vertex to Real World
Shared by A STEM Educator★ Featured Teacher · rated 90+ in our quality review
Students will identify and interpret key features (vertex, axis of symmetry, direction of opening, maximum/minimum, domain, range, x-intercepts) of transformed quadratic functions written in vertex form and standard form, in both mathematical and real-world situations.
Lesson Overview
Students progress from reading key features of a quadratic in vertex form to identifying and interpreting those features in real-world contexts, changing only one variable at a time across 9 thin-sliced tasks at vertical surfaces.
Materials
- Vertical whiteboards or chart paper
- Dry-erase markers (multiple colors)
- Pencils and paper for notes
