Shared by A STEM Educator★ Featured Teacher · rated 90+ in our quality review

Year 11BTC Style / Thinking Classrooms50 min
Learning Objective

Students will be able to apply Pythagoras' Theorem to find missing sides in right-angled triangles and solve problems in 2D contexts, including non-standard orientations and multi-step scenarios.

Lesson Overview

Students progress from identifying the hypotenuse and calculating it directly, through finding a shorter side, to applying Pythagoras in multi-step and non-standard contexts. Each task changes exactly one variable to build deep fluency.

Materials

  • Vertical whiteboards or large paper
  • Dry-erase markers
  • Pencils and paper for notes
  • Basic calculator

Scaffolded Task Progression
