Shared by A STEM Educator★ Featured Teacher · rated 90+ in our quality review
Students will fluently multiply multi-digit decimals by applying place value reasoning and estimation strategies, and interpret products in real-world contexts.
Lesson Overview
Students move from whole-number multiplication intuition through decimal-by-decimal products, building understanding of place value shifts and estimation before tackling multi-digit and context-rich ceiling tasks — all at vertical whiteboards in random groups.
Materials
- Vertical whiteboards or large chart paper on walls
- Dry-erase markers (one per student)
- Erasers or socks for wiping boards
- Random grouping cards (playing cards, popsicle sticks, or a phone randomizer)
- Pencils and paper for notes page
