Learning Objective

Students will fluently apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical and algebraic expressions.

Lesson Overview

Students begin by evaluating simple exponential expressions and progressively apply the product, quotient, power, zero, and negative exponent rules — changing only one rule or complexity layer at a time. The lesson culminates in multi-rule simplification and scientific notation connections.

Materials

  • Vertical whiteboards or large chart paper
  • Dry-erase markers (one per group)
  • Pencils and paper for notes
