Scaffolded Task Progression
A codebreaker needs to simplify the expression into a single base and exponent. Draw out what looks like if you stretch it completely out into a string of multiplication. Do the same for . Count your total string. Write a shortcut rule that explains how to jump straight from the question to the answer without expanding it.
