Students will classify benchmark angles, accurately measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor, and solve additive angle problems by decomposing or composing adjacent angles.
Lesson Overview
Students progress from identifying benchmark angles by sight to precisely measuring angles with a protractor and finally solving additive angle problems — all framed through solar panel tilt and roof truss alignment for sustainable buildings. Groups of 3 work at vertical non-permanent surfaces (VNPS) throughout.
Materials
- Vertical whiteboards or large chart paper taped to walls
- Dry-erase markers (multiple colors per group)
- Erasers or paper towels
- Printed protractor reference cards (one per group)
- Random grouping cards or sticks
- Printed task cards (teacher posts or projects each task)
- Four-Quadrant consolidation note sheets (one per student)
